About
Digital DJs, remixers and producers
Starting life as regular DJs, club promoters (Champion Sounds, Break the Habit, Bandwidth) and producers (internet-pioneering-Fast-Tracker-addict group Strange Angel), Knob Jockeys (James, Taz and Phil) became residents at the Manchester night Bandwidth in 2004. Soon they were guesting at other breaks and underground nights around the city: Carry On!, Drum Music/Bass Camp, Fubar, Fuzzy Logic, Solid Earth, East and their first festival gig in 2007 at Beat Herder. Knob Jockeys have also played two weddings, but no christenings or bar mitzvahs as of yet.
Knob Jockeys mash up everything and anything, but their bread-and-butter is solid breakbeat, boundary-pushing house, calorific bass lines and the pop tunes you wish youʼd written yourself. Three members means their musical tastes that spread far and wide, and thereʼs barely a track they wonʼt play (rumour has it, Color Me Baddʼs ʻ(I Wanna) Sex U Upʼ is where they draw the line).
Above all, Knob Jockeys know how to pick the party tunes, and will play as many records at once until everyoneʼs dancing, the sun comes out and everyone, from the back to the bass bins, in fact including the bass bins, is grinning.
Spin Cycle had this to say about their NYE ʼ09 set:
Manchester masters of the digital mash up. This trio of musical nutters dice and blend up everything from funk and soul to Dnb to create the ultimate party soundtrack. Regulars spinners over at the club night “Bandwidth” we’re letting them lose on the main floor for the final few hours to wring out whatever you’ve got left in ya!”
Meanwhile, the trolls over in the festival, club and mash-up forums had these pearls of wisdom:
“This shit is like on another level of wicked”
“This was in-fucking-sane….had me grinning the whole way through”
“It really shouldn’t work, but somehow it just does!”
“Sick! You have had me hitting the repeat button for the first time in aaages”
