KJs are three Ableton Live DJs/producers from Manchester blending electro house, funky, bass, tropical, rave pop mashups & cleverness into a mix that you’ll just have to love. Or hate. It’s up to you really :)
Keep up to date with the blog below or download our latest mixes and mashups.
The summer’s turning into a wash-out, but here’s our new mix to brighten it up! At 1 hour and 9 minutes, it’s a sort of cross between two sets we’ve played recently at Beat Herder and Carry On, with a few extra nuggets thrown in for good measure!
Our set at Carry On after Rennie Pilgrem last Friday was broadcast live on Radio Glitch, and the good folks there have put the set up for your listening pleasure. The set ends a bit abruptly as the club lights were turned up, but Glitch have done a great job of the sound.
On our quest for new tunes, ideas and inspiration we’re always listening to what other DJs are playing. Over the past year or so there have been a few mixes that have really stood out. Here’s the best (in no order of importance):
The Black Ghosts Mixtape
This mix kinda opened our eyes to how house had moved on recently. Having become disenchanted with the breaks scene, these tunes proved that electronic music could still excite us.
Jack Beats Fabric NYE mix
This was the first time we discovered Jack Beats, and it was love at first listen Grimy, fat and fun!
Fake Blood’s essential mix
A great collection of most of Fake Blood’s excellent remixes to date. And a great ‘chill-out’ second hour.
Aquasky June Mix
We’ve loved Aquasky for many years, and this mix proves they’re still in the game with these fresh tunes.
We Make It Good: Sinden
This mix dates is getting on a bit now, but it still sounds fresh – featuring (as then) future classics such as Township Funk and Hardcore Girls.
Toddla T & Mr Versatile: Ghettoblaster
In a word: genius. The Sheffield boy mixes up everything from R&B and bassline to drum ‘n’ bass, accompanied by the very funny Mr Versatile.

Here’s a little reworking of La Roux’s excellent Bulletproof. Ended up on the long side, but well, you can mix into it and stuff innit ). Wanna credit Foamo, D.I.M., Rico Tubbs, and La Roux of course.
As there are three of us in Knob Jockeys, we’ve thought often about ways to make sharing our library of tunes easier between ourselves. For a while, having the one external hard drive with everything crammed on seemed to work, but more and more we’d spend our practice sessions munging bits and bobs we’d been working on into the main library, and more often that not, sticking stuff in temp and scratch and limbo folders all over the place, never to be found again. Also, a Firewire device chaining incident meant we lost a quarter of our data a couple of years back, which brought home even more the fragility of everything being in one place.
Beatherder is an intimate festival taking place in the Ribble Valley in Lancashire on July 3rd-5th.
Other acts already confirmed include: The Whip, Filthy Dukes, The Young Punx, Meat Katie, Utah Saints, Beardyman, Dub Pistols, 808-State and many more!
If you can’t wait until then, you can still check out and download our set from Beatherder 2007.
Comments:
Here’s the set we played at the recent Easter event in Manchester – a mix of breaks and electro/fidget house and some usual pop silliness. It also includes a version of one of our own tunes – Dirty Slap.
We tried to not include a Fake Blood tune again, but he slipped in again! Jack Beats features twice – another artist we’re really digging at the minute!
